LaDoverick is by far in my opinion one of the most patient, caring, supportive, and noblest of fathers. I often tell him that the grace as a father that he models needs to be shared with fathers throughout our nation. Being in ministry since 1982, I also witnessed the neglect and absenteeism of fathers in many of their children’s lives. Even though LaDoverick was reared by his grandmother without either his mother or father being present in most of his pre-adult life, he somehow has emerged as one of, if not the greatest fathers that I know. I often sit in my office counseling young men and women whose lives are often devastated by the absence of their fathers in their lives. I am often left without answers and grieved by what they share. However, LaDoverick overcame his circumstances and is a model father. From childhood to adulthood, he participated, provided for, and was extremely instrumental in his son’s intellectual, emotional, spiritual, and career development. He was there when they needed advice, helped walk them through personal, relational, and other challenges. He has sacrificed himself over and over again on the altars of parenthood to ensure that his sons not only developed healthily emotionally, spiritually, financially, relationally, academically, and in other main areas of their lives; but has helped them excel in all of these areas and more!
Finally, by making sure that his sons grew up in a stable environment, LaDoverick created a culture of honor by faithfully loving his wife for all of these years, as well as somehow developed a network of healthy interpersonal relationships with extended family and friends.
In conclusion, I personally would rank LaDoverick Huggins as “Father of the Decade” not only for what he’s demonstrated, but the person of who he is as a “Father”..
